We had a tremendous week for the Millennium Civic
Week, both in terms of weather and turnout of crowds.
This page will retain all the information about the event itself
for any visitors inquisitive about what goes on during Civic Week,
with pictures of the weekend itself posted at the bottom of this
article.
This years Kelso Laddie, Darren Paxton, left the Square on Saturday,
22nd July to carry out the official ride to Yetholm.
As always, a whole host of events were lined up for Civic Week including
5-a-side football, Family Day at Springwood Park, children's pet
show, art exhibitions, various dances, torchlight procession, fancy
dress parties, the Grand Civic Week Ball, trophy presentations,
plenty of rideouts and, of course, the main rideout itself on Saturday
the 22nd.
The route to be taken on Saturday will be via Easter Softlaw, Lurdenlaw,
Blackknowe Quarry, Hoselaw Church, stopping for refreshment at Horselaw
Loch, then by Wideopen and Venchen Hill down to Yetholm War Memorial
where the Kelso Laddie will place a wreath.
From there the party will proceed to Yetholm where the Laddie and
his supporters were greeted by the Chairman of Yetholm Community
Council. At 13:30 the riders left Yetholm, proceeding to Primside,
Linton, Bowmont Forest and Spylaw, arriving in Kelso Square at 16:45
where the Laddie was presented with his blue bonnet.
Information taken from the excellent Kelso Civic Week Souvenir
Programme. The Programme is 128 pages long and contains a whole
host of information about Kelso and Civic Week in particular. It
can be purchased for £2 from most retailers in Kelso.
