Kelso Civic Week 2002
Best wishes to Scott Mackenzie for Civic Week 2002
"SAFE OOT SAFE IN"

SCOTT Mackenzie is the young man who will lead Kelso in its annual display of civic pride after being named Kelso Laddie for 2002.
At a packed town house on the Friday night, the secret kept under wraps for more than two months was finally disclosed with the formal announcement of the Ex-Kelso Laddies' Club decision.
Right-Hand Man will be Ex-Kelso Laddie Darren Paxton, with another Ex-Laddie, David McKay, Left-Hand Man.
Scott, a 20-year-old joiner with local building firm M. and J. Ballantyne, told The Southern he was "absolutely chuffed to bits" at having been elected.
"It's been really difficult not saying anything to anyone for the last 10 weeks, so I am relieved it is all out in the open now. It's a great honour and something I have wanted to do for a very long time."
Scott, son of Ian and Nancy Mackenzie, of Deans Court in the town, told the gathering of family, friends and officials that he considered it "an immense honour" to have been chosen.
"I thank the Ex-Kelso Laddies for choosing me and I will do my absolute best to carry out my duties to the same high standards set by my predecessors."
Provost Margaret Riddell said she was confident Scott would prove an excellent Kelso Laddie.
"I think he will do very well and the whole town is looking forward to a full Civic Week after last year's curtailed programme because of foot and mouth although all credit to the committee who made sure that the outbreak last year did not deprive the town completely of its annual summer festival."
After the formal announcement inside the town house, Scott was introduced to the crowds waiting patiently in front of the dias outside, where he was officially sashed by Provost Riddell. There then followed the traditional singing by all of the Ex-Kelso Laddies present.
