Rugby
Since leaving Kelso and Kelso Harlequins rugby has
taken a huge part of my life having played for numerous clubs which
I will try to remember they are in no particular order:
1979 - 1982 - Kelso Harlequins
1983 - Kelso 3rd's when on leave from Army.
1982 - 1984 - Army Apprentices College, Chepstow.
(Army Champions 2 years running) (Dean Ryan the England International
was our Number 8 (3 from right on Back Row)). Click on Photo to

1984 - 1 & 3 Training Regiments
1984 - Army Under 19's Team (Played in the
Front Row with George Graham, Scotland) Graham White from Kelso
also got into the squad this year.
1984 - 1991 - 21 Engineer Regiment (Army Champions)
1986 - 1991 - Corps of Royal Engineers
1987 - 1991 & 1995 - 1999 - Deutcher Rugby
Club (DRC), Hannover, Germany. They became German National Champions
in 1988 for the first time, and that was my second season playing
for them. They won for the second time in 1995 when I started my
second stint with them. They have now had numerous back to back
championship victories and are one of the most successful clubs
in Germany, boasting 8 or 9 current internationalists in their ranks.

1991 - 1993 - 38 Engineer Regiment (Captain
for 2 seasons, got to quarter finals of Army Cup)
1992 - Ripon RFC (Only 2 games)
1992 - Multi National Force and Observers (New
Zealand Team) Cairo 10's. We came runners up to a very strong Fijian
Team. (Score in the Final was 20 - 8. Fiji had 3 internationalists in their team)
1993 - 1995 - Folkestone RFC (5th selected
but did not play, 4th's 1 game, 3rd's 2 games, 2nd's 3 games &
1st's played the remaining 2 years for them)
1995 - 1999 - 35 Engineer Regiment. (Running,
coaching, playing and captaining the team).
1998 - Split UK Forces Team. (We played in the Croatian
league and beat all teams, however we were not allowed to win the
competition).
1998 - Corps of Royal Engineers. Gained my Corps of Royal Engineers colours after a gap of 10 years from the first time that I played for the Corps.
1999 - 2001 - Highland Rugby Club, Inverness.
(Played only 2 seasons before retiring I then started to coach the
youth players).
2003 - 2005 - Played for 12 Regiment Royal
Artillery (Stormers). During this comeback I played in the British
Army Germany Cup Final which was narrowly lost 10 - 7 to 1 Royal
Welsh Fusiliers (See Picture Below after match). Also the highlight
was beating 7 RHA by 15 points to 10 in the final of the Artillery Cup. 7 RHA have
been at the top of Army Rugby for more than 20 years.
